Ace of Cups - Gemstone Tarot

In Tarot of the Gemstones, the Golden Dawn picked Rutile Quartz for the mineral.  It's an interesting choice.  See the picture on the side.

rutile  (r 'tēl', -tīl') Pronunciation Key
Rutil is a lustrous red, reddish-brown  or black tetragonal mineral that as  an ore, is a mineral of natural product, of the metallic element, titanium.

Titanium  is a dark-gray or silvery, lustrous, very hard, light, corrosion-resistant, metallic element, typically occurring when combined in various minerals as it is used in metallurgy to remove oxygen and nitrogen from steel and to toughen it.

Symbol:  Ti; atomic weight:  47.90; atomic number:  22; specific gravity:  4.5 at 20°C.

So the rutile aligns the quartz stone, a very common salt mineral that is naturally colorless.  Quartz takes on the color of whatever aligns with it, in this case the titanium and the chemical compound is called rutile quartz.

Salt is alchemically aligned with the SUN, i.e. the wands, which of course is a bad alchemical mix, so to alleviate that the titanium removes all oxygen so that the SUN cannot breathe and dissipate the water.  Nitrogen I imagine would be the pentacles, i.e. proteins, in this setup.

The aqua plain card on the side is really the card back.
